Bible Passage: 1 Timothy 6:6-10
Memory Verse; "Now godliness with contentment is great gain." 1 Timothy 6:6
This message is an extract from my book, ‘Godliness with Contentment, Great Gain’’. As we enter the last half of this year 2016, I feel this message is very apt for this season in our lives and in the world generally. Almost on a daily basis, we are inundated with the news, particularly in our country Nigeria, of billions of Naira being recovered or traced to some past political leaders. Apart from that, we see in man today great craze to acquire wealth.
Somebody once said that; ‘Man loses his health in gaining his wealth. Then to regain his health, he wastes his wealth’. What a great loss! I believe if we practice godliness and we are contented with what we have, we will receive gain, not only in this world, but also in eternity. I pray that you are blessed as you read on.
But Godliness with Contentment is great Gain. This connotes a relationship between Godliness, Contentment and Gain. It says that if you are godly and you add contentment to it, you receive great gain. Looking at it mathematically it appears thus:
Godliness + Contentment = Gain
That is when you add contentment to godliness, you receive gain. Gain is therefore contingent upon the presence of godliness and contentment together. It implies that if you are godly and you are not contented, you will not receive gain. Neither will you, if you are contented but not godly. There is a symbiotic relationship between godliness and contentment. It is a dependent relationship which implies that one cannot exist without the other.
Gain is receiving the kingdom of God and eternal life. You receive gain if, when you exit this world you wake up in Paradise. You receive gain when salvation becomes yours. But you cannot receive salvation without faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. That is you cannot be profitable if you do not accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. You cannot strive towards godliness without the instrumentality of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ brings us to God and we then can live a godly life. We cannot be godly in our self or by our power alone. In fact all appearance of Godliness in man is like fitly rags before God.
A life without Jesus Christ is meaningless; it is like a man chasing after the wind! No matter how many trophies, achievements or accomplishments he attains in his life, he will never be satisfied and will always long after filling the deep void in his life. Jesus Christ is the only one that can fill the void.
Thank the Lord for bringing you to the second half of year 2016. Many things has happened, but the Lord continues to keep your head above the waters. Sing songs of praise and adoration to Him.
Pray that the Lord will grant you, in this difficult period, the grace to live a godly life and be contented with what you have. Note, a man’s life is not in the abundance of what he has, or what he thinks he does not have.
Pray that the Lord will bring meaning to your life, in the areas of your pursuits. That you will not lose your reward, but you receive great gain, not only here on earth, but also in heaven your destination.
Pray for your country and ask that the Lord will give you godly leaders who will rule in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Leaders who will eschew greed, but will have the love and welfare of their people at heart.
Pray for the country of Great Britain and ask the Lord to lead them in this journey of Brexit they have embarked upon. That, per chance if they have made a mistake, the Lord will help them to overcome the outfall. On the other hand, if it is His will, that He will help them to carry on for the benefit of the generality of the people.
Pray for the United States of America, that as they embark on the journey of picking a new President, the Lord to help them to choose the right leader, whom He has ordained for this time in in their lives and in our world.
Pray for peace in your nation and in our world. That He will bring about a speedy end to the scourge of terrorism in those nations where it is running rampage. Pray particularly that He will help us defeat the ISIS in Asia, Boko Aram in Nigeria and wherever and in whatever name they are known all over the world.
Pray for yourself and ask the Lord to provide for your needs, at this time, according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus. That for the remaining half of this year, he will protect you and keep you at peace and that you and members of your family will neither suffer nor beg for bread.
Also pray for the countries of the world, where there is serious economic downturn at the moment; Nigeria, Venezuela etc. Ask the Lord to intervene in their affairs and bring back the season of abundance again into their lands.
Finally thank the Lord for answering your prayers.
The Lord bless and keep you. May He make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace, now and forevermore. Amen.
Have a wonderful month of Grace.
