Bible Passage(s): 1 Corinthians 5: 6-8
Memory Verse: And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. Mark 8:15
Leaven is a common Jewish metaphor for an invisible pervasive influence. As leaven works its way through the dough, spreading out through the bread until its effects are evident in the entire bread, so is the sin of corruption, which gradually infiltrates men’s life and mind until it has penetrated and permeated into every part of the society.

For those of us who are Nigerians, October 1st is a special day in the life of our nation. On this day we commemorate the independence of our nation from colonial rule. It is a day we see as the beginning of true nationhood for our nation, when we took over the baton of governance from the British and took our destiny in our hands.

Memory Verse: “And the King shall answer and say unto them, verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Matthew 25:40
As the Lord Jesus Christ was winding down His ministry on earth and moving towards accomplishing His destiny; the cross, He described scenario at His judgment seat to the disciples. He said “And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.” (Verses 32, 33) To those on the right, who are the righteous, He said “…..

Memory Verse: “……. Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”. 2 Chronicles 20:20
The people of Moab came together with the Ammonites and others to battle against Judah, the people of God. Recall that these were the same people that the Lord did not allow Israel to invade, when they came out of Egypt as they were settling in the Promised Land. Now they came together, joined forces and arrayed themselves in battle against Judah to remove them from their land of promise.

Memory Verse: “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” NLT (1 Samuel 16:7)
The events of the past few months in Nigeria have brought the above story into greater perspective. This is the story of how God chose David from amongst his brothers as king over Israel. After God rejected King Saul, the first King that was ordained over Israel, He commanded Prophet Samuel to go to the house of Jesse and anoint one of his sons king over Israel. Note that God did not reveal who amongst the children of Jesse he was to anoint beforehand.
Sunday 1, May 2011
The month of May is said to be the month of grace. It is the month following immediately after Easter; when we remember the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ; which brought about our reconciliation and restoration to God our Father. So as we move into the new month, let me reiterate the need for us to come to our Saviour and renew our commitment to Him. This is the only requirement for us to live a fruitful life. Therefore as we proceed in this year of New Beginnings, let us continue to strive towards fruitfulness by living a righteous and sin free life.

Memory Verse: “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”Genesis 1:28
After God had created all things, He created man in His own image as the epitome of all creation. The Bible says that and having created them, male and female, God blessed them and commanded them to ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion … over every living thing that moves on the earth’ (Vs. 28).
