Bible Passage(s): Isaiah 25: 1- 7
Memory Verse: “And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.” Isaiah 25:6
The month of August connotes many things for me. Though a unique month in its own right, it comes with mixed memories. For example this is the month when I lost my Dad, two years ago, exactly on the 26th August 2010. This is also the month when the city of Ibadan had that
terrible flash flood, which claimed the lives of many and brought sorrow and sadness to numerous families all over the city. I remember in particular a wonderful young man, Kunle Akinyele, who was cut down in his prime along with his two daughters by the overwhelming flood which came right into his home and drowned them all! These are indeed sad memories. But in the midst of these sad recollections and as our minds are flooded with sad memories of these happenings, the Lord is bringing to us a message of hope this month.
I draw inspiration from the book of Isaiah 25:6, quoted in the memory verse; on this mountain; wherever you live on this surface of planet earth, the Lord says that the sound of rejoicing will reverberate in your life and the all the devil has stolen from you, He is going to restore a thousand fold. The Lord of hosts will make for you a great feast of fat things, of choice pieces, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things of the marrow, of well refined wines on the lees. He will keep you perfect and in peace, you whose mind is stayed on Him. He is your everlasting strength.
Nigeria continues to live in the throes of mayhem and destruction by the Boko Haram sect, who have declared war on their people and nation. They have insisted that they will not dialogue and their mission is unclear. We continue to hear, of the evils committed by these people against humanity on a daily basis. There is fear and trepidation in the land! But the word of God is certain and it will surely come to pass. “And here on this mountain, God will banish the pall of doom hanging over all peoples, that shadow of doom darkening all nations. Yes he’ll banish death forever. And God will wipe the tears from every face. He’ll remove every sign of disgrace from his people, wherever they are. Yes! God says so!” (Isaiah 25:7 – The Message) So let us keep holding on and keep believing our God. He shall yet bring back our captivity as a people and a nation. We shall once again ‘return in joy, with our mouths filled with laughter and our tongue with singing. Then shall they say among the heathen, the LORD hath done great things for them’. Yes indeed, the LORD will do great things for you, for me and for our nation and we shall all be glad. It is well with you.
The Lord bless and keep you, may He make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace, now and forevermore.
Have a most blessed month.
