Bible Passage(s): Isaiah 65:17 - 25
Memory Verse: “For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. But be ye glad and rejoice forever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. ” Isaiah 65:17-19
These indeed are difficult times for our nation and indeed our world. In parts of northern Nigeria, we hear of the daily occurrence of violence and terrorist attacks, with the destruction of many lives and properties.
Churches, mosques, government structures, including the Police are targets of attacks by people with evil and satanic intentions. The Nigerian government is at a loss on what to do!
On the international scene, Europe is experiencing very difficult economic times. The word contagion has become a most dreaded word. Economic downturn spreads like wild fire through the whole of Europe and countries whose economy had hitherto been strong are now shivering under the plague of contagion.
Insecurity of lives and property is rife all over the world. The Arab spring goes on unabated. Syria and Yemen are fighting the battles of their life. Even Egypt and Libya, where the battle for regime change seems to have been won have not been able to win the peace. The Lord will heal our world.
However, we should not be despondent but be comforted with the message of God to His people, Israel, in Isaiah 65: 17 – 25, when it seemed all hope was lost and tomorrow seems to be a dread as it has now dawned on our world. As I said in the message of January: “……, I believe the Lord is going to do a new thing that will astound everyone. As a Yoruba saying goes: ‘Ibi ti won fi oju si, ona ko gba ibe lo!’ That is ‘where we were expected to fall, the table was turned against them! Their desires over us have been disappointed.’ …….. As Jesus rebuked the wind and said to the sea “Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm” (Mark 4:39), so shall all the storms ravaging our lives as individuals and a nation yield to the command of the Lord in year 2012 - Peace be still! Amen.”
The Lord who declared this a year of Exploits, Expansion and Explosion will not change His mind. However Christians need to stand in the gap for our nations and our world. For God to hear us, we must purge ourselves of all dead works. Sin has permeated our world and Christians are the greatest culprits! We who profess the name of the Lord continue to dishonor His name on the altar of greed, corruption and avarice. Our men of God have allowed unbridled ambition and lust for ephemeral things of the world to blindfold them. Lust after money, position and power has taken them over like a storm. Our pulpits have become a showman’s stage, where people are manipulated day by day. In many churches the Bible is quoted out of context to manipulate the people. Use of symbols has become a popular gimmick to deceive the congregation of God. It is a show of shame! Men of God, we need to go back to our God, repent in sackcloth and turn a new leaf. Indeed how much ‘land’ does a man need? The Lord will help us.
Let us all come to God in repentance. Don’t ride the high horse of pride with the attitude of being holier than thou. Remember he who thinks he stands should take heed lest he falls. Ask God to heal and save us. Seek the peace of your Jerusalem, for in it you shall find peace and the Lord will do a new thing in our lives and nations.
Have a wonderful month.
