Memory Verse: \"Do not think that because you are in the king's house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?\" Esther 4; 13-14 NIV

GRATITUDE!

on Monday, 29 April 2019. Posted in 2019 Messages, Messages

Bible Passage(s): Psalm 103

Memory Verse:    “Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.  Bless the  Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:  Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;  Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with loving-kindness and tender mercies;  Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's" Psalm 103: 1 - 5

I was looking at a video sent to me on WhatsApp the other day and the motivational speaker, Steve, in response to a question by someone from the audience spoke about gratitude. He said, ‘’Gratitude changes your perception. Depression and joy cannot co-exist in the same place. Learn to look at all God has done for you and you will focus less on what you think you don’t have.’’

This is a very apt statement for our times and in particular this month when we remember the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we think of what He did for humanity on the cross at Calvary, to reconcile us to God His Father and bring us salvation, we should stand in gratitude and appreciate Him even more. He paid the supreme sacrifice, by laying down His life for us.

Immanuel – God with us!

Bible Passage(s): Genesis 39 & 40

Memory Verse: “Genesis 39: 2 - 4"

Still on the topic, The Abiding presence of God, the Message of Grace for February 2019, we continue this month to further examine and consider the implications of the abiding presence of God.

The name Immanuel simply means ‘God with us”. This is the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. He came into the world as man to bring salvation and restoration of our relationship with God. Therefore as we
………., I am reminded of this song by Chris Bowater,

In Your presence I am content
In Your presence there is light
Expressions of Your life
Revelations of Your pow’r and might
In Your presence I can bring
my love songs of fering,
I’m in the presence of my King.

As we proceed in this year of Harvest, there is a major requirement for us to enable us fully reap the harvest that God has provided for us. This is the abiding presence of God. We need the abiding presence of God to be with us always, as it was with Joseph and even the children of Israel as they journeyed through the wilderness towards their Promised Land, Canaan.

Bible Passage(s): Genesis 39 & 40

Memory Verse:    “2 The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, 4 Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned." Genesis 39: 2 - 4

The reference passage is the story of Joseph’s life in Egypt. We know what happened to Joseph and led made him to become a slave in the house of Potiphar in Egypt.

The Year of Harvest!

Bible Passage(s): Isaiah 9: 1 - 5

Memory Verse:    "You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as
people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder." Isaiah 9: 3

Harvest always brings joy with hope of an impending period of abundance and plenty. A bountiful harvest causes great rejoicing by the people. No more drought, hunger and suffering!

The year 2019 is our year of Harvest; both for the nation and the people of the land. For many, the out gone year was filled with suffering, hunger and pain. There was massive shedding of blood, terrorism and kidnapping in the land! Great scarcity, lack, fears and want were widespread! Many laboured and sowed, sometimes in tears and blood, but alas, nothing to show for it!

BOUND SECURELY!

Bible Passage(s): 1 Samuel 25: 28 - 31
Memory Verse: “Even though someone is pursuing you to take your life, the life of my lord will be bound securely in the bundle of the living by the Lord your God, but the lives of your enemies he will hurl away as from the pocket of a sling’’ 1 Samuel 25: 29

The Lord has brought us gloriously to the final month of year 2018. Looking back over the year, you will agree with me that it has only been the Lord that has seen us thus far. What with the various happenings in our nation and the world? Money has been scarce, insecurity of life and property, natural and man-caused disasters and so on and so forth. Despite all these, the Lord our God was faithful unto us. He stood by us like the Rock of Gibraltar, protected and shielded us. He bounded us securely in the ‘bundle of the living’ and all those who pursued us; wanting to take our lives and those of our children and loved ones, He hurled away as from the pocket of a sling.

PLEASING GOD

Bible Passage(s): 1 John 4: 16 - 21
Memory Verse: “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love’’ 1 John 4: 17 - 18

In our developing world, it is not only the rendering of help during disasters that demonstrates our love; it also includes sharing our material possessions, especially giving money to help a brother, sister or family member. The present situation in our country Nigeria brings this point further to the fore, especially in situations where workers salaries are owed for an extended period of time and money is scarce in many families. Many families have on many days found it difficult to feed. Some have their children sent back from school for their inability to pay the school fees.

GOD THE REFUGE AND THE STRENGHT OF HIS PEOPLE

Bible Passage(s): Psalm 46
Memory Verse: “There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.’’ Psalm 46: 4 – 7

Nigeria marks her independence from colonialism today, 1st of October. Then and as it is today, Nigeria and Nigerians roll out the drums in celebration every year. She is no more under the rule of Great Britain! We now rule and govern ourselves and hope to become a great independent nation.

A NET-BREAKING MIRACLE!

Bible Passage(s): Luke 5: 1-11
Memory Verse: “When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink." Luke 5: 6 - 7.

The story in the gospel of Luke, chapter 5, verses 1 to 11 is very familiar. Simon, who was a fisherman had toiled all night in a profession in which he was an expert. This night he did not record any catch. So in frustration and disappointment, he was washing his net preparing to return home, hoping for better luck next time. Many of us may be going through the same experience as Simon right now! The economy of the nation is in such a state that our efforts over time have not amounted to much. We have not been able to make a ‘catch’ in our various endeavors and businesses.

However the story of Simon took on a different dimension when Jesus Christ emerged on the scene! As Jesus was standing by the Lake Gennesaret and the people were crowding around Him, listening to the Word of God, He saw two boats at the water’s edge and got into one of them, the one belonging to Simon and continued preaching to the people. After He had finished speaking, He instructed Simon to move out into the deep and drop his net.

YOUR TIME OF LIFE!

Bible Passage(s): Ecclesiastes 3: 1 - 8
Memory Verse:    “For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter; though a person may be weighed down by misery." Ecclesiastes 8: 6

The Message Bible version of the memory verse says there is an opportune time to do things, a right time for everything on earth. In essence, everyone has a time of life or a date with destiny! Time for mankind is when everything coalesces and come together to bring about the fulfillment of the stated plan and purpose of God for his or her life. This is a time when God moves in his situation and circumstances and takes him to another level. It is a time when one seizes the moment and move forward in life! A person, who grows from childhood to adulthood, will never ‘play with sand again’! He assumes a higher plane and must do things conforming to his status.

Life Songs

Bible Passage(s): Isaiah 35: 1 - 10

Memory Verse:    “The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice, Even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the excellence of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the Excellency of our God." Isaiah 35: 1 - 2

Songs come in different rhythms and melodies; some continuously oozing out, whilst some are intermittent, depending on the kind of beat being played. There are songs which are melodious and some are not so melodious. The melodious song draws attention and pulls the crowd. Whereas songs that are not so melodious though may temporarily draw attention will eventually repel listeners after some time. They don’t want to hear it! But the melodious song continues to attract people and they cannot just have enough of it!

THE DIVINE RESIDENT

Bible Passage(s): 1 Corinthians 6: 19 - 20

Memory Verse: “Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?'' 1 Corinthians 3:16

The message for this month is taken from the classic book ‘Secret Power’ by D. L. Moody. Divine Resident is about the indwelling and infilling of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is indeed a divine resident in every believer. However, the believer may be quenching the Spirit of God, and he may not glorify God as he should, but if he is a believer in Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost dwells in him. Though there is the Holy Ghost dwelling in every believer in Jesus Christ, unfortunately however, He may not be dwelling within them.

A SOUND OF THE ABUNDANCE OF RAIN!

on Monday, 23 April 2018. Posted in Messages, 2018 Messages

Bible Passage(s): Luke 5: 1-7; 1 Kings 18: 41 -46

Memory Verse:     “And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of
abundance of rain. So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,'' 1 Kings 18:41-46

After a prolonged drought or heavy toil, God always reward His people with an abundance that is much more than they can handle. In such cases, they will require help from others to fully gather and reap the abundance God has blessed them with.

The stories in the Bible passages above tell us; first, what happens when Jesus comes on the scene in our lives, and the result when we obey His commands. The second story tells of the impact of faith and belief in God, in His words, persistent prayers and obedience.
